Work and residence documents

Unless COVID-19 concessions apply, you must provide proof that you have lived for a total of at least 2 years, and worked full-time (minimum 35 hours a week) for at least 12 months as the holder of an eligible visa in one or more areas listed as:

The evidence provided should demonstrate that you and any family members included in your application have complied with your visa conditions when in Australia.

Evidence of work

Proof of full-time work can include but is not limited to:

  • employment references: employment references should be on company letterhead and include information about your position, the period of your employment and your weekly work hours.
  • Notices of Assessment issued by the Australian Taxation Office
  • copies of bank statements showing wage or salary deposits
  • superannuation documents
  • payslips that cover the period of employment
  • contracts, group certificates and any other documents relevant to your employment history

To satisfy the full time work requirement the 35 hours can comprise hours worked in one or more jobs in each week.  Suitable evidence will need to be provided for each position to support your claims.

For periods of self or contract employment, proof can include but is not limited to:

  • taxation documents including business activity statements
  • evidence of business registration
  • evidence of business activity which could include a statement from your account, correspondence from customers and suppliers
  • audited financial statements for the relevant period(s)
  • evidence of contracts or franchise arrangements
  • advertising and marketing material
  • a company profile or prospectus
  • memberships of any business or professional associations
  • any other documents relevant to your self-employment history

The evidence should demonstrate that your self-employment activities require you to be active in the business for at least 35 hours a week.

Evidence of residence

Proof of residence can include but is not limited to:

  • leases or rental agreements
  • utility bills such as telephone, gas or electricity that show your home address(es)
  • school reports
  • title deeds to your home
  • any other evidence that demonstrates you and any family members are resident in a specified regional area.

11.

English language

  • You must already have your English language test results before you lodge your application.
  • Functional English (minimum requirement)
  • Evidence = Test Report Form and Number

Functional English

To prove you have functional English, show us evidence that:

  • you are a citizen of and hold a valid passport issued by the United Kingdom*, the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland. *British National (Overseas) passports are not acceptable as evidence of functional English.
    or
  • ​you completed a degree, a higher degree, a diploma or a trade certificate in an institution in or outside Australia that required at least two years of full-time study and all instructions were in English
    or
  • you undertook your education at:
Institution Study Time
a primary school and secondary school where all instruction was in English in or outside Australia All years of primary and at least 3 years of secondary study
a secondary school in or outside Australia where all instruction was in English At least 5 years of study
an institution in Australia where all instruction was in English At least 1 year of full-time study towards an award
an institution in Australia where all instruction was in English The part-time equivalent of 1 year of full-time study towards an award

or

  • in the 12 months before you applied for the visa, you scored one of the following:
Test Score
International English Language Testing System (IELT​​S Academic or General Training​​ An average band score of at least 4.5 based on the 4 test components
Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based Test (TOEFL iBT) A total band score of at least 32 based on the 4 test components of speaking, reading, writing and listening
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) A total band score of at least 30 based on the 4 test components
Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) A total band score of at least 147 based on​ the 4 test components

12.

Australian community language, if applicable

To be eligible for Australian community language points you must be fluent in one of the community languages.

You must attach certified copies of your degree, academic transcript and a letter from your university stating the language in which your course was conducted, or evidence of your NAATI accreditation.
