SECTION 5 – Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) (subclass 884) visa holders
5.1 You will not need to give us some of the documents we usually ask for if:

  • you hold a subclass 884 visa, or
  • your subclass 884 visa ended in the 28 days immediately before you apply for this visa
5.2 You will still need to provide documents:

  • to let us know you are getting help with your application
  • if there has been a change in your situation since we granted you the 884 visa.
5.3.3 Changes in your situation that we need evidence of include

  • your family member is no longer a dependant
  • your partner relationship has changed
  • you have had a baby
  • your contact details have changed
  • you have a new passport
  • you want to nominate a new sponsor
  • your sponsor has died
SECTION 6 – Balance of family documents
  Show us that you meet the balance-of-family test by giving us:

  • evidence of how you are related to each child
  • evidence of each child’s country of permanent residence
  • evidence that your child should not be included in the balance-of-family test (for example, their death certificate)

You do not need to meet the balance of family test if you are applying as a retiree.

If you hold a Contributory Parent (subclass 173) visa, you have already met the balance of family test.

SECTION 10 – Sponsor documents
10.1 Prove your relationship to the applicant
10.1.1 Birth Certificate
10.1.2 Marriage Certificate
10.1.3 Death Certificate
10.1.4 Adoption Certificate
10.1.5 Family status certificates or family books if officially issued and maintained
10.1.6 Form 40 (downloadable PDF)
10.2 Prove you are a citizen or permanent resident
10.2.1 Passport
10.2.2 Citizenship Certificate
10.2.3 Valid visa (for eligible New Zealand citizens)
10.2.4 Evidence you are settled
10.3 Prove you are an eligible community organisation
10.3.1 Your certificate of registration
10.3.2 Proof your representative can act for the organisation, such as authorisation from the board or management committee
10.3.3 Proof you can financially support the applicant after they arrive in Australia
10.3.4 Proof the organisation is lawfully established in Australia and has been actively operating in Australia for a period of at least a year
10.3.5 Proof of your organisation’s relationship with the applicant’s child
SECTION 11 – Assurance of Support
Provide us with an assurance of support when we ask for it. You don’t need to provide an assurance of support if you are applying as a retiree.
