Entertainment Visa Checklist – Australia Migration Visa

This temporary visa lets you come to Australia to work in the entertainment industry on film, television or live productions as a performer, production or support staff. You can include family members in your visa application.

Sponsor documents

If you have a sponsor, provide the following with your application:

  • a sponsorship application ID number or sponsorship transaction reference number (TRN) or a sponsor approval letter or receipt for lodging the sponsorship application
  • a written statement from your sponsor that they will meet the sponsorship obligations for you and all dependent family members included in your application

You must also provide evidence that your sponsor is:

  • an Australian organisation lawfully established and operating in Australia
  • an Australian Commonwealth, state or territory government agency
  • a foreign government agency operating in Australia

Also provide evidence your sponsor holds any licences they need to undertake the production.

Supporter documents

If you have a supporter, provide:

  • a letter of invitation that includes an itinerary outlining the dates and venues of all performances
  • a written statement that they support any dependent family members you include in your application

You must also provide evidence that your supporter is:

  • an Australian organisation lawfully established and operating in Australia
  • an Australian Commonwealth, state or territory government agency
  • a foreign government agency operating in Australia
  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen

Also provide evidence your supporter holds any licences they need to undertake the production.

Non-profit engagement category applicants

If you are engaged to perform or support a non-profit production, provide evidence:

  • your sponsor’s non-profit status is accepted by the Australian Taxation Office or a state or territory government agency, such as NSW Fair Trading
  • your sponsor meets their Australian taxation obligations

13.

Consultation with unions

If you are applying under one of the following categories, provide evidence that your sponsor or supporter has consulted with the relevant union or unions before engaging you:

  • performing in a film or television production subsidised by government
  • performing in a film or television production not subsidised by government
  • performing other than in film or television
  • working as production staff
  • working as support staff for an entertainer or group of entertainers

Arts certificate

If you are performing in a film or television production, provide evidence that your sponsor or supporter has obtained an Arts certificate from the Department of Communications and the Arts,

Visa Application Charge concession documents

If your sponsor/supporter organisation is included by the Minister in a legislative instrument, you may be eligible for a Visa Application Charge concession. You will need to provide evidence that the organisation is:

  • any registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission
  • any foreign government agency, embassy or consulate
  • any state, territory or Commonwealth government agency; or
  • another organisation that has been listed by name in the instrument as they are managing an event that receives significant government funding.

You will not receive a concession if you are also contracted to other organisations that are not listed in the instrument for other events during your stay.

We might not process your application if you ask for a concession but don’t provide evidence you are eligible for one.

16.

Financial documents

Show us you can support yourself and anyone who comes to Australia on the visa with you by providing:

  • an employment contract or bank statements, or
  • evidence of your financial position from your bank or financial institution

We can also consider allowances, accommodation and other help from your employer.

19.

Dependants over 18 documents, if applicable

To include your child who is over 18 in your visa application, they must be:

  • over 18 years of age but not yet turned 23, and dependent on you or your partner, or
  • over 23 years of age and unable to earn a living to support themselves due to physical or cognitive limitations and dependent on you or your partner

If your child is likely to turn 23 while your application is being processed, you will need to provide evidence they are dependent on you due to disability.

Provide:

  • identity documents
  • documents about their other relationships, if applicable
  • character documents
